Venta el Museo is located in Lucainena de las Torres. It is quite easy to find and very well signposted from the Sorbas to Mini Hollywood road. We chose to go on a wet, cold Easter Sunday with our daughter and her two children. The restaurant is entered through the bar area, which serves a good selection of tapas, and when we arrived at 1.45 it was already very busy. We were shown to our table in the main restaurant, a nice large round table, in a small alcove, by a very pleasant waitress, offered a drink and given the menus and told about the house specialties, most of which were also on the main menu.
The menu is not massive, but very varied, so that there is something for everyone’s taste, including a children’s menu which is extremely well priced between €3.80 and €4.80.
The menu is very Spanish and includes soup from €4.80 and salads from €3.50. After studying the menu we decided to share starters and ordered grilled vegetables with cod prized at €4.10, chorizo and morcilla prized at €6.80 and peppers stuffed with rice and meat prized at €9.20. For our main course I chose to share a paella with our daughter. There are tow to choose from, one is a chicken and the other a mixed seafood, we chose the mixed seafood prized at € 19 for two people. My husband chose the solomillo at €17.30 and the two children macaroni bolognaise at €4.20 each. When we ordered we were told by the waitress that the paella would take 45 minutes, but that was fine with us as we were having starters. Other items on the menu include breast of duck, shoulder of lamb, rabbit and a couple of fish dishes.
The starters arrived and were very nicely presented, and I must say, the peppers stuffed with meat and the grilled vegetables with the cod were delicious as was the bottle of white house wine that we had chosen. Be warned though that this is a very Spanish restaurant and everything is quite spicy and very garlicky.
Unfortunately the adults main courses arrived before the children’s, and although this wasn’t a major problem, it would have been nice if everything had arrived at the same time, you know how impatient children can be when they are hungry!
The paella looked pretty but nothing special and likewise with the taste, it was ok but after it had taken 45 minutes to cook, I would have expected it to be a lot hotter than it was. However, the solomillo was very good and the children were very happy and their plates were very soon emptied.
After looking at the dessert menu which consists of a selection of home made items and ice creams, we decide to go for the surtido which is a plate of small portions of the various desserts on the menu. The children both had ice cream.
All in all it was a pleasant meal and the bill was a very reasonable €112 for five people. I would go back and try it again in the hope that the food might not be lukewarm.
