La Veleta restaurant in Aguils Murcia serves great fish and meat dishes

La Veleta Restaurant Review

Restaurante La Veleta can be found at Calle Blas Rosique in Águilas. The restautant is entered through the bar area but is a completely separate room. My partner and I chose to go on a Saturday evening and booked a table for 8.30, needless to say as the restaurant is very Spanish, we were the first ones there. We were shown to our table by a very pleasant waiter, given the menu and offered a drink. We were impressed to see that every single table had a reserved sign on it. Their menu is fairly large with a good choice of starters and main courses. Fish dominates the main courses and includes hake, angler fish ,prawns, cod and many more. Having said that, there is still a fair choice of meat dishes including steak, lamb, goat, etc. And if you fancy a sauce with your steak there is a choice of four all at €2 extra. For a starter we decided to share a plate of iberico ham and cheese, and for a main course we both decided on fish. I chose the mixed grilled fish and my partner the mixed fried fish both at €15 each, and apart from the cod, these were the most expensive items on the fish menu. The wine list was enormous with a lot of wines that I was not familiar with. However we chose the house red at €9. The starter arrived and sharing was the right decision as there was more than enough for two people. The fish we chose was delicious, both with an assortment of six or seven different fish, very plain, very simple but cooked to perfection and washed down with what turned out to be a very good house wine. Although very full neither of us could resist the dessert menu which consisted of a home made section, a fruit section and various ice creams. I had the fig ice cream and my partner the tiramisu which she let me taste and it was to die for, definitely top of my list for next time. We finished the meal with a coffee and a liquor. By this time it was about 10.30 and every table was full, so make sure you reserve a table. The total bill was €65.65, but be warned, the prices on the menu do not include iva which is added at the end, bringing the total to €70.25. A very pleasant evening was had and we have been back since and had an equally good meal.
